Guest Bedroom Boudoir!

by Katie on April 26, 2011

I am so excited to show you my guest bedroom!  Actually, it’s been a work in progress for quite a while now.  My taste typically changes from month to month, season to season.  However, when my husband and I purchased our mid-century home a few years ago, I had a clear-cut vision in my mind and as luck would have it, my vision has always remained the same!  My husband Jared is super cool and very supportive of my all my creative whims… But much to his mild aggravation, this space has actually been painted a couple of times….by him. In essence, his audible annoyance was completely founded, after most of his entire weekend was taken up priming and painting two and half coats on the walls… I hated the color!! Yes, the color I so unfortunately chose! Whoops!  Even as an experienced designer, I still find paint to be one of the hardest choices.  So the conversation went a bit like this…  Me:  “Jared, thank you so much for painting the bedroom, BUT I really hate the color…” My husband Jared: “Ummmm, REALLY KATIE….SERIOUSLY? In my opinion, it’s very hard to find the “perfect” shade of chocolate brown. (Designer Tip: If you attempt to select a dark chocolate its typically best to steer clear of any shades of brown that have a greenish undertone.) My final project for this room has been deciding what to hang over the bed. Previously I had two pretty cool vintage black and white prints. But I recently moved them to the family room. This past weekend I found this starburst mirror for $25.00  in the scratch and dent section of  (once again)Wistera Outlet. Oringally it was gold but I spray painted it high gloss white. I am still undecided if it’s the perfect fit!

I really wanted guests to feel comfortable like they where staying at a boutique hotel.  What do you think?  I’d love to hear your feed back! Hopefully I achieved my goal!

i love everything! I have been looking for inspiration for our bedroom. I want to build my own bed frame and head board. I think I could pull off off something close to this. Thanks for the inspiration!

The room looks beautiful — like a very exclusive small hotel in Europe somewhere. I think the starburst is the perfect touch and sort of subtly mirrors the folds in the gold pillows on the bed. You made the right choice by painting it white. It looks very crisp against the brown walls. If you had left it gold, it would have clashed with the lamps and nightstands. Gorgeous!

Thanks so much Susan! Actually, the starburst was so extremely cheap because one of the starburst spokes had fallen off! The store discounted to about $25.00! I decided to remove a few more spokes to make it appear balanced. I was really worried that it was going to look obvious! But it ended up turning out better than I had hoped!

Thanks so much for your comments!
